This semester, I got the chance to learn about how journalism and social media go hand in hand.
After spending the semester utilizing my social media accounts to promote my blog content, I was also able to use analytics tools to monitor and analyze the effectiveness of my social media activity.
I learned how to use this information to steer me in the right direction in terms of posting content that my audience was more likely to engage with and what areas I could improve in.
When analyzing my social media accounts, I found that my posts with the most engagement were the ones with polls or open ended questions. This was especially true for Twitter.
By creating a poll that my audience could engage with or by encouraging my audience to respond to my questions with their own answers, this boosted my engagement tremendously. I was able to utilize the information I gathered for my blog posts and this type of surveying made gathering data much easier.
I also found that some of my best performing posts were the ones that included pictures. By including pictures that are appealing to the eye, I was able to capture my audience’s attention and in return, this boosted my engagement and visibility.
When analyzing my social media accounts, I also found that posting in the morning leads to more engagement than posting in the afternoon or night.
Although it isn’t the best habit, a lot of people reach for their phone first thing in the morning and start scrolling through their social media accounts.
I believe that my posts gained the most engagement in the morning because this is the time when people can give their undivided attention to their social media accounts before the day begins, which increases the chances of them reacting and engaging with the posts that they come across.
