JREM 422 Group Project — Reflection

For this project, my group covered UT’s announcement of in person classes returning in the fall. To cover this topic, we used Twitter and Instagram.

Now that I have had experience with covering Covid-19 via social media, I think that social media channels are very effective for reporters.

By utilizing social media, reporters are able to find sources and key information that they may not have otherwise had. Reporters are also able to use social media monitoring to stay up to date and create stories that unfold in real-time.

One thing I learned about coverage is the importance of not falling behind.

In the beginning, our group struggled with coming together to get this project done. However towards the end, we started holding each other accountable for our designated roles and things went much smoother.

As a reporter, it is important to stay on top of your story and not fall behind. This way you are giving the public real-time information as it happens and in a timely manner. This can help you avoid spamming your audience with a million tweets and information that you felt rushed to get out, even if it may not be correct.
