4 Knoxville Spots To Add To Your Outdoor Dining Roster

As March and the promise of warm weather creeps around the corner, it’s almost time for the question of “Do you prefer inside or outside seating?” to return. And as Covid-19 continues, the demand for outdoor seating at restaurants has only increased.

Luckily for the residents of Knoxville, there is an abundance of local spots that offer an exceptional outdoor dining experience.

Whether you’re looking for a space to play corn hole, a view overlooking the river, or a rooftop lounge decorated with every color of the rainbow, you’ll be sure to find somewhere you can take the afternoon off.

1. SoKno

A backyard where you can grab a margarita and wait for a table? Say less.

SoKno Taco Cantina is a locally owned restaurant and bar in South Knoxville. Located close to Ijams Nature Center and AMBC biking trails, this spot is a popular attraction for bikers who are wanting to grab a bite or anyone who wants to enjoy being outside.

SoKno offers a menu full of Southern California-inspired street tacos, flavor packed Mexican style dishes, 24 beers and house margaritas on tap.

If you are waiting for a table to open up, or you just want to sit outside, you can head to the backyard which is furnished with picnic tables and a food truck offering refreshments.

2. Balter Beerworks

If there are two things that go hand in hand on a nice day, they are craft beer and Balter Beerworks’ outdoor patio.

Located in downtown Knoxville, Balter Beerworks was transformed from a once abandoned service station to a rustic, urban style brewery and restaurant.

This local hot spot is all about craft and local, offering a menu using fresh and local ingredients that pair well with each of their craft beers.

The atmosphere at Balter Beerworks is comfortable and inviting, offering front porch dining and an outdoor beer garden where guests can enjoy nice company and beautiful weather.

3. Preservation Pub

If you’re looking to get a taste of Knoxville’s culture, Preservation Pub is your next downtown destination.

Located in the heart of Market Square, this spot offers everything from live music to local food and beer served in a unique three story building.

Doused in eccentric decorations and colorful lighting, the true eye catcher of Preservation Pub is the rooftop lounge and bar.

Guests are invited to take a seat under this electric rooftop forest where they can overlook Market Square and indulge in delicious food and drink options, creating an exceptionally unique dining atmosphere.

4. Sunspot

As many students at the University of Tennessee know, fantastic food and a relaxing atmosphere come together on the rooftop patio at Sunspot Restaurant.

Conveniently located on Cumberland Avenue, Sunspot is the perfect place for students to take a break from school and enjoy the benefits of a rooftop patio without having to go downtown.

“Sunspot is definitely my favorite place to go to on the strip when the weather is nice,” said Mackie McManes, a UT student. “You just can’t beat sitting on the rooftop, especially when they have deals during the week like Wine Wednesday.”

Sunspot’s menu caters to both vegetarians and non-vegetarians with a unique and tasty blend of Southwestern, Caribbean and Latin American cuisines. Sunspot also offers over 40 beers on tap as well as a vast selection of wines that guests can enjoy while lounging on the plush outdoor couches or tables.
